As a primary school teacher (PGCE, QTS, MA in Education) I teach both whole class music lessons, and individual piano lessons to adults and children. Piano lessons are available at my home after school, and during the school day at Swallow Dell Primary School in Welwyn Garden City, and The Lea Primary School in Harpenden.
I aim to make lessons as fun, stimulating and enjoyable as possible, and love getting to know each student from week to week.
In my piano teaching, I encourage pupils to practice what it is we have learnt in that lesson, whether it be a specific piece or a certain concept. I provide pupils with the lesson books and complementary exercise books to help with this.
It is important that I work in partnership with parents of the children I teach, so I encourage parents to keep me updated of any relevant events I should be aware of.
Terms and conditions for lessons in schools: Piano lessons will be provided during the school day on a one to one basis during term-time.Lesson fees for 2026-2027 are £17 per 20 minute lesson. Lessons will be invoiced half termly, with 5 lessons provided per half term / 10 per term / 30 per academic year. More lessons are available on request, dependent on tutor availability. Invoices will be sent out in advance of each half term, with payment due within 14 days of the date on invoice. Each invoice will detail the date for each lesson for that half term. Your child will be expected to bring their piano book(s) into school for the day of their piano lesson. Failure to make payment of invoice will result in cancellation of piano lessons for your child. 24 hours notice is required if your child is unable to attend their lesson. If possible, an alternative date will be arranged. Lesson will be forfeited if less than 24 hours notice is given of non-attendance. Any lesson cancelled by the tutor will be rescheduled to a mutually convenient time. Half a term’s notice is required for ending your child’s piano lessons. If a child stops attending lessons within a term, no refund of lesson fees already paid will be due. Where a student requires new books to progress, parents/carers will need to purchase these. Single pieces of music may be borrowed as appropriate but may be charged for if not returned within a set time. Examination entries will only take place in agreement with the tutor and parent/carer. Entry fees will be paid for by the parent/carer. Students must have access to a suitable instrument on which to practice between lessons, which can include a tuned acoustic piano, or digital keyboard with fully-weighted, touch sensitive keys. Students are expected to practice pieces and techniques/scales between lessons. For younger students and beginners, this will require supervision and support from parents/carers.
